A San Diego man has been identified as the cyclist who was tragically killed while riding his bicycle on the Interstate 805 shoulder near Otay Valley Regional Park. The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office has released a statement naming the victim as 66-year-old Victor Keith Fields, who died following a collision with a Toyota sedan on the evening of May 29.
Based on reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office, Fields was navigating the freeway's southbound off-ramp at Palm Avenue in Otay Mesa when the incident occurred. It was shortly after 7:30 p.m. when the sedan veered onto the shoulder and struck Fields for reasons still to be determined. Despite the quick response of emergency services, Fields was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Diego Union-Tribune provided details of the accident's location and timing in their report.
