The city's streets have once again played host to the chaos of sideshows, with San Francisco and Oakland witnessing hazardous exhibitions of stunt driving this past weekend. According to reports from NBC Bay Area, in Oakland, a sideshow at Grand and Lake Park Avenue saw cars weaving dangerously and fireworks lighting up the sky. In one incident, two participating vehicles collided while performing donuts, although details surrounding the arrests have remained unclear.
Similarly, the San Francisco Police Department found itself responding to not one, but two sideshow calls in the early hours of Sunday morning, reports KRON4. The first, near the iconic Ferry Building at the intersection of Embarcadero and Washington streets at around 2:10 a.m., escalated into flames, with large objects catching fire amidst the automotive acrobatics. The second followed shortly after, occurring in the Mission District at Valencia and Cesar Chavez streets around 3:02 a.m., where officers arrived at the sight of multiple vehicles skidding and spinning, engaging in the so-called sideshow activities.
Both incidents in San Francisco led to a scattered scene as police arrived, crowds of spectators and drivers disappeared into the night. Compounding the lawlessness, vandalism to a building in the Mission District was noted, but the culprit remained at large. Despite the property damage and the potential peril of these events, no arrests have been reported by the San Francisco police.
Authorities are reaching out to the community in hopes of gathering further information. Witnesses or individuals with any pertinent data on the sideshows are implored to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444, or to text a tip to TIP411, beginning the message with SFPD. Tipsters have the option to remain anonymous, assured that their identity will be protected as they contribute to the quelling of this reckless behavior that disrupts the sleep and safety of the Bay Area's citizens.
