The San Francisco Police Department cracked down on retail theft this Wednesday, nabbing two prolific crooks red-handed with a haul of purloined makeup worth $3,800 at a Mission District pharmacy, as the latest score in ongoing blitz operations aimed at stemming the tide of brazen shoplifting in the city.
Stakeout cops at a store near 24th and Castro Streets watched on as Angenique Kyer, 24, and Andrea Glaser, 19, stuffed shopping bags with cosmetics and sauntered out without bothering to pay, according to a report by the San Francisco Police. But the law was waiting, and while Glaser surrendered without a fuss, Kyer bolted, only to be hauled back after what cops called a 'brief foot chase.'
Further tightening the cuffs on crime, the officers' search of the suspects' gold Acura TL turned up even more suspected stolen items. Both suspects were slapped with arrest warrants from other counties.
In an effort to encourage businesses to join the fight and ward off the city's rampant thefts, the SFPD has put out the call for any interested parties to get in touch and participate in the blitz operations. All confiscated contraband from the incidents, including the $3,800 in makeup, will be returned to the rightful owners.
SFPD is clear that the investigation remains 'open and active' and urges anyone with further information to reach out via their hotline or anonymous text line.
