Phoenix authorities have reported a second arrest in the drive-by shooting case that resulted in the death of 15-year-old Giaginette Brown in September 2023; 16-year-old Jason "JJ" Richards was detained and is facing charges including murder, as detailed by ABC15. The incident, which occurred on 107th Avenue and Camelback Road, involved shots fired into Brown's residence, tragically striking her while she slept in her bed.
Richards was taken into custody overnight and booked into the Juvenile Corrections Center, and although his arrest follows that of 17-year-old Isaac Orozco in January, who according to court documents was the alleged driver during the crime, police believe other individuals are also implicated, and they continue to investigate, Phoenix police urge anyone with information to step forward and contact them or Silent Witness, as noted by AZ Family.
Orozco, who was arrested on January 3, has been indicted on several counts, including second-degree murder with ground evidence and social media messages indicating the home was the intended target of the shooting, as per ABC15. Richards, whose involvement came to light in part through an Instagram video that seemed to document the event in a manner that matched a neighbor's security footage, has now joined him in facing serious legal ramifications.
After her untimely death, Brown's loved ones gathered to honor her memory and their words had been captured, "I feel like the house is empty. I just want her back," Brown's aunt, Terri Smith stated, according to ABC15.
