Violence briefly turned a section of I-57 into a crime scene late Monday night in the Morgan Park area. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the incident began with a collision between two cars near 111th Street around 10:00 P.M. Following the crash, the drivers pulled over, whereupon shots were fired, leaving one individual injured.
The Illinois State Police reported that the victim, whose details regarding age and gender were not released, was quickly taken to receive medical treatment at a nearby hospital. The assailant managed to instantly flee the scene before troopers arrived. Traffic was disrupted early into Tuesday morning as police shut down lanes for an investigation, diverting vehicles off at 119th Street, though they have since been reopened.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the seemingly random act of violence remain sparse. However, the WLS report identifies that the suspect fired from one of the vehicles involved in the crash at the occupant of the other. After the shooting, the assailant quickly fled the scene, prompting an extensive search by authorities.
State police are still to release any description of the suspect or information on the state of the victim's condition. They continue actively to seek any leads that could assist in the ongoing investigation into this incident.
