The Cottonwood Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for the missing man, Larry David Petersen, last seen over a week ago. Petersen, a white male, born on February 2, 1951, was last spotted on Saturday, May 25th driving near SR-89A and Cornville Road in Cottonwood, Arizona. Authorities are asking the public for help in locating the 73-year-old who is described as being 5-foot-8, 217 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.
Petersen was driving a white 2007 Ford Explorer with Arizona license plate NDA19E, which was also noticed near the crossroad of 89A and Cornville Road, potentially heading towards Sedona. The alert, active since its release date of June 1st, aims to mobilize community support to find Petersen. For anyone who has seen Petersen or has any information, Cottonwood P.D.’s contact person Chad Sinn at (928) 649-1397 is the designated officer to reach out to.
The concept behind the Silver Alert system is to quickly disseminate information about the missing individuals who are elderly and often vulnerable, potentially suffering from dementia or other cognitive disabilities that increase their risk in settings unfamiliar to them. This alert has thus become a crucial tool in the swift and safe return of such individuals to their loved ones and caregivers.
Details pertaining to Petersen's disappearance, such as his last observed attire or if he suffers from any medical conditions that may impair his safety, were not immediately provided by law enforcement. However, the investigation is ongoing, and updates will be available on the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Silver Alert webpage, where concerned individuals can access more information about current Silver Alerts across the state.
Time is often an adversary in cases of missing persons, particularly with those of higher vulnerability. The Cottonwood community and its neighboring towns are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Petersen or his vehicle to authorities. With every moment that passes, the collective hope for a safe return dares to waver, but the Silver Alert remains a beacon in this search—a guiding force in the collective effort to reunite Petersen with his family.
