Travel has resumed on Port Royal Road south of Saturn Parkway in Spring Hill, after a temporary road closure earlier Wednesday. The cause for concern was a visible crack in the bridge over Rutherford Creek that prompted city officials to temporarily halt traffic. Inspection teams have now confirmed that the structure is secure and the observed crack was superficial. WSMV reported the city’s statement explaining, “The crack underneath the bridge that was spotted this morning has been identified as a cosmetic issue and is not a structural problem.”
The closure earlier in the day led officials to quickly implement detours, directing southbound drivers to Tom Lunn Road towards Kedron Road. This detour was necessary to ensure public safety until the integrity of the bridge could be ascertained. Northbound travelers were advised to turn around and take Kedron Road to continue north, as per updates shared on social media platforms. According to WKRN, this critical traffic redirection ensured that the public was aware of the temporary status of the bridge’s closure.
Fortunately, following a thorough inspection, it was determined that the structure posed no threat to commuters. The roadways were reopened, restoring normal traffic flow along this key route. "Inspectors determined the Port Royal Road bridge over the creek is safe to travel on after a closer inspection," as per the City of Spring Hill, TN - Municipal Government.
