In the early morning darkness of Springfield, a scenario unfolded that led to the arrest of a man following an attempted armed robbery. Springfield Police Officers apprehended 31-year-old Joshua Deso in the Leete Street parking lot after he allegedly attempted to rob a group using a firearm, according to an official report released by the Springfield Police Department.
Officers were first called to the scene around 2:05 a.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gun on the 0-100 block of Locust Street. Utilising city surveillance cameras, members of the SPD Real-Time Analysis Center caught sight of the suspect on the 100 block of Main Street, and promptly directed officers to the location. Deso, attempting to evade law enforcement, is alleged to have brandished the firearm at officers during the chase, creating a crucial gap before reinforcement officers descended and ultimately detained him, as detailed by the Springfield Police Department's narrative of the incident.
The subsequent search for the weapon brought K9 Officer Joshua Dufrane and his four-legged partner Dusko to the forefront of the investigation. Demonstrating the acumen of the SPD's canine unit, Dusko tracked down the firearm on a hillside along the escape route taken by Deso. The recovered firearm had been reported stolen out of Burlington, Vermont, thus adding another layer to the charges Deso now faces.
Deso, a resident of West Springfield, has been charged with a litany of offenses, including Armed & Masked Robbery, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and a Firearm Violation with Two Prior Violent/Drug Crimes. Notably, the charges also mention Deso's juxtaposing statuses: a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm and the Receiving of Stolen Property Less than $1200, delineating the complex weave of alleged criminality and the consequences that now await him.
