A DeKalb County jury has delivered a guilty verdict in the case of a Stone Mountain man charged with the murder of his brother following an argument over a fan. DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announced that Quentin Hill, 31, was convicted of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, related to the killing of his 28-year-old brother, Westley Hill.
The incident took place in the early morning hours of December 31, 2021, when officers discovered Westley Hill with gunshot wounds on the living room floor of a home located at the 4700 block of Lost Colony Court. Statements from witnesses reveal that after the dispute, Quentin Hill shot his brother and then fled in their mother's car. A witness who was in a bedroom of the home at the time reported hearing the gunfire that ended Westley Hill's life.
The mother of both men was present during the altercation. In her testimony, she recounted the escalation of the argument over the seemingly mundane household object. She recollected telling her son, "It wasn’t that serious," before Quentin Hill initially put down the gun. However, after stepping outside for a brief period, he returned and fired the shots that fatally wounded Westley, succumbing to his injuries, as reported by DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston.
Following the shooting, Quentin Hill was nowhere to be found until the vehicle he used to escape was located back at the residence on February 5, 2022. His mother informed the officers that she had retrieved the car from a different place after her son had left it there, unaware of her his whereabouts at that time. Under the urgings of his mother, Hill eventually surrendered to authorities on March 29, 2022.
The trial was overseen by Superior Court Judge Tangela Barrie. The prosecution team, led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Tauri Thomas and assisted by Assistant District Attorney Emily Donkervoet, presented a compelling case with the contributions of District Attorney Investigator Christopher Hollowood and Supervising Victim Advocate Ikwo Nyong. Former DeKalb County Police Department Detective J.B. Williams, now working with the DA's office, was the lead on the initial investigation. Sentencing for Quentin Hill will take place in the forthcoming weeks.
