Heads up, Surprise residents: the city is gearing up for Juneteenth, which means a shake-up in some of the services you might be relying on. City of Surprise administrative offices will be taking a breather on Wednesday, June 19, in observance of the holiday, and you better mark your calendars for changes in trash pickup and shortened library hours.
If you're one of those who wheel out your bins for the city's sanitation squad, the Juneteenth holiday is shuffling the deck and resetting the usual timeline, trash collection is pushed back a day with no pickups on Wednesday and the trucks will rumble through starting Thursday to play catch up, but you won’t be left hanging with garbage as the city helpfully nudges you to track your updated schedule through the MySurprise App, where you can sign up for either text or email reminders.
Dive into some recreational programming or splash around at the city pools because they're all set to welcome you during the holiday. The lures of leisure won't disappoint; the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Center's doors open from 6:30 to 11 a.m., whereas both the Surprise Aquatic Center and Hollyhock Community Pool invite you to cool off from noon till 4 p.m., for all your library needs—drift through the aisles of one of the three City of Surprise libraries during the modified hours, Northwest Regional and Asante Libraries will have their lights on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and if Hollyhock is your haunt, they're cutting you loose a bit earlier at 3 p.m.
