Authorities in Henry County have detained a man following the discovery of an explosive device on his property. Robby Basham, a 53-year-old from Buchanan, faces serious charges after deputies, responding to a self-reported drug overdose call, encountered more than just a medical emergency on Wednesday.
Countering the imminent overdose, authorities ferried Bashair to a local hospital, but their attention quickly pivoted when they uncovered a menacing concoction of Tannerite and nails, ensconced within a PVC pipe adorned with black wires—not unlike a prop from some thriller movie, only this was the stark reality of rural Tennessee. The object, lying inconspicuously on his front porch, was certainly built for destruction, as reported by Fox17.
Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), alongside the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), swooped in to assist with the investigation. These agents requested explosive teams from the Jackson Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who arrived to neutralize the potentially deadly device, as noted by WBBJTV.
Intrigue deepened after a warranted probe of Basham's home, which led to the unearthing of additional components—pieces that held the grim promise of assembling more devices akin to the one found at the scene.
