
Three men were arrested and charged following the armed robbery of a 33-year-old man in the heart of Chicago, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. Jesse Hopkins, 19, Jyre Mallett, 24, and Rashawn Ward, 28, are facing charges that include felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of cannabis.
The incident, taking place an hour before the suspects' apprehension, occurred on the 2100 block of S. Ashland Ave. Members of the police caught the suspects on June 11, 2024, at about 4:16 p.m., listed after distinguishing themselves as being involved in the incident, as per the Chicago Police Department. Hopkins and Mallett were found in the 600 and 500 blocks of W. Roosevelt Rd., respectively. Ward's arrest followed soon after, with charges stemming from the Chicago area as well.
Hopkins, of the 5100 block of S. May St., is solely facing one felony count of armed robbery. Mallett, hailing from the 1300 block of S. Spaulding Ave., has been hit with an additional felony count for the possession of a controlled substance. Finally, Ward, from the 200 block of N. Lamon Ave., faces a misdemeanor charge for cannabis possession, and warrants have been issued for both Mallett and Ward.
All three suspects are slated for a detention hearing today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California, according to the Chicago Police Department. Details surrounding the event of the robbery itself are limited at this time, but the stolen property was reportedly taken at gunpoint from the victim.
