DeKalb County is reeling from an overnight shootout at a local wing restaurant that left two men in critical condition. The violent exchange occurred at Atlanta's Best Wings, situated off DeKalb Medical Parkway and Covington Highway, and was first reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident, happening around 2 a.m., led to a heavy police presence, with both DeKalb County and Lithonia officers on site collecting evidence.
According to witnesses, the confrontation began with an argument over a seemingly trivial matter—a $1 bill dropped on the ground. This dispute escalated rapidly, with one of the individuals stepping outside before returning to demand a $5 tip he had given to an employee moments before. Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News that the argument quickly turned to gunfire, with both men drawing weapons and shooting at each other. The resulting melee led to at least ten shots being fired, yet miraculously, no other patrons were injured.
Surveillance footage obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta showed the two men engaging in a scuffle near the restaurant counter before the shooting ensued. The video later displayed a harrowing scene where one of the injured men dragged himself out of the camera's view, trailing blood. The area surrounding the establishment was cordoned off by crime scene tape, and the visual aftermath included bullet holes piercing the restaurant's windows.
The community, often no stranger to violence, expressed fear and frustration in the wake of the incident. "This community - it happens over and over. I live in this community and I can go home and be accidentally shot because of what's going on here," a witness told FOX 5 Atlanta. A customer who arrived to pick up an order found himself amidst the chaos, recounting to Channel 2 Action News, "I just happened to pull up here and get some hot wings when I saw a guy laying on the ground. I just walked in to get the wings and the guy told me to get out the store. Next thing I know, police are swarming the place."
As of now, DeKalb Police have not released any detailed information regarding the victims or potential suspects. They are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact the DeKalb County Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and the wing restaurant remains closed as officers delve into the details of this disturbing event.
