The streets of Memphis became the backdrop for a harrowing incident as two 16-year-old boys were arrested following the carjacking of a woman and her two young children. The crime occurred just after midnight outside the EZ Express gas station in Frayser, when four individuals approached the victim and demanded she exit her vehicle at gunpoint. WREG reports that the victim was allowed to retrieve her children before the assailants fled in her SUV.
According to WREG, the incident was captured on the store's surveillance camera. In a desperate attempt to quickly safeguard her kids, the victim can be seen on video holding one toddler with another child at her side. The suspects then drove away in her 2022 Volkswagen. Police officers spotted the stolen vehicle approximately half an hour later, igniting a chase after the suspects refused to comply and stop.
The pursuit came to an end near Lewier Street and Wellons Avenue in Frayser, as detailed by Action News 5 when three suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to evade on foot. Memphis Police Department successfully apprehended two of the teens, who are now facing multiple charges, including carjacking, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, two counts of reckless endangerment, and evading arrest.
Police are still on the lookout for the remaining suspects involved in this alarming crime. The prompt action of the authorities brought some relief to the traumatic ordeal faced by the mother and her children.
