Early Sunday morning, a shooting paired with a vehicular crash on Detroit's Lodge Freeway resulted in injuries to two teenagers and prompted a freeway closure for several hours, as reported by CBS Detroit.

The violence erupted at about 1:30 a.m. on June 9 near 7 Mile Road when an 18-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger—hailing from West Bloomfield and Southfield, respectively—were shot in the arms and subsequently crashed their vehicle. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the teens, having been targeted by gunfire, vacated and hid outside their vehicle leading to a second crash as an unwitting driver collided with the abandoned car inflicting minor injuries. The victims, in a state of temporary serious condition, were later transported to a local hospital.

Details surrounding the shootout and the subsequent crashes remain unclear while the investigation continues, Michigan State Police are engaged in gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, Lieutenant Mike Shaw provided a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit mentioning that detectives are still piecing together the course of events and seeking potential suspect(s), "Detectives are continuing to look for evidence and interviewing witnesses," said Lt. Shaw, "Currently, we are working to determine exactly what occurred and possible suspect(s)."

The repercussions of the gunfire extended beyond physical injuries, as the ensuing investigation and clean-up caused a significant interruption to freeway traffic, noted WWJ Newsradio. Authorities shut down the northbound M-10 after the collision, which created a substantial disruption along this key motorway running through northwest Detroit. The freeway was subsequently reopened several hours later as investigators cleared the scene. Michigan State Police are urging members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward and contact them at 855-MICH-TIP or get in touch with Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK-UP.
