A 49-year-old woman from Wilmington was arrested in Reading, Massachusetts, after being pulled over by police while her children were in the vehicle, according to authorities. Megan Najarian is facing multiple charges including operating under the influence, marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and two counts of child endangerment while operating under the influence. She was scheduled for arraignment in Woburn District Court today, detailed a report by NBC Boston.
Officers observed, as reported by Boston 25 News, a white Honda Odyssey making an attempted turn at a speed improperly high on Salem Street just before 9 p.m. yesterday. The attempted traffic stop by the police eventually resulted in Najarian being pulled over on Lowell Street after several attempts to stop her car. A field sobriety test confirmed authorities' suspicion that Najarian was indeed operating the vehicle under the influence.
During the traffic stop, police officers, according to NBC Boston, spotted two children in the backseat of the car. After Najarian failed the sobriety test, she was arrested, and the children were found to be unharmed. They were subsequently released by their father. Najarian's measured blood alcohol level was .20, which is more than twice the allowable legal limit.
Reading Police Department stated, "A preliminary investigation, including a field sobriety test, determined that Najarian was operating under the influence," as reported by Boston 25 News. With the investigation ongoing, Najarian was taken into custody without incident, marking this instance as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by driving with an impediment, particularly with minors involved.
