A recent case of suspected child abuse in Woodstock has led to the arrest of a father after his infant daughter was admitted to the hospital with multiple severe injuries. Cherokee County sheriff's deputies arrived at Children’s Scottish Rite Hospital on Monday, following reports of a child possibly being mistreated.
The child in question, a 10-week-old girl, was discovered in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit displaying serious physical trauma. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the infant sustained severe injuries to her mouth and throat and had multiple broken bones, which included her legs, ribs, and ankles.
In connection with these distressing findings, 35-year-old John Azzolino of Woodstock, identified as the father, was apprehended and is now facing intense scrutiny under the law. He has been slammed with two counts of aggravated battery and cruelty to children. WSB-TV has communicated that additional charges are expected to be brought against Azzolino.
While the mother of the infant has not been charged and is reported to be working with law enforcement, a 3-year-old child also belonging to the Azzolinos has been taken into the protective custody of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS). Meanwhile, found in the Cherokee County Detention Center without bond, Azzolino awaits judicial proceedings.
