
A 25-year-old man was fatally shot during a late-night argument on the South Side of Chicago in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, authorities have confirmed. The incident occurred shortly before 1:45 a.m. in an alley in the 6100 block of South King Drive, where the young man was engaged in a dispute with an acquaintance, during which the assailant produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.
Following the shooting, the Chicago Tribune notes that the victim's relatives attempted to transport him to a hospital for emergency treatment, and en route, they managed to flag down police officers at the 6500 block of South King Drive, an ambulance was summoned which ultimately conveyed him to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead. Suspect information remains scarce as the Chicago Police Department continues its search for the gunman, and detectives spearhead the ongoing investigation into the deadly altercation.
Concurrently, the Chicago Sun-Times reported a similar account of the incident stating the argument transpired in a nearby Washington Park neighborhood alley, also pinpointed around the 6100 block of South King Drive. The Sun-Times highlighted that after the victim was shot, his family's efforts to reach medical help were intercepted by a police encounter that facilitated the arrival of paramedics who provided immediate care before the man's admission to the University of Chicago Medical Center, however, their efforts could not spare him from succumbing to his injuries.
Investigators from Area One are actively pursuing leads in what has now become a grim search for justice.
