A tragic incident in west Phoenix has claimed the life of a woman early Sunday morning when she was struck by a semi-truck. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the crash occurred just after 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of 63rd Avenue and Buckeye Road, where first responders found 71-year-old Biyan Wu with critical injuries; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Phoenix Police relayed that Wu was pushing a shopping cart along Buckeye Road and, despite the early morning hour where traffic is typically lighter, she was not utilizing a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash which may have played a role in the event that led to her untimely passing. The semi-truck driver involved in the incident remained on-site was cooperating with authorities; police mentioned they indicated no apparent signs of impairment, as reported by AZ Family report.
The ongoing investigation by local law enforcement is looking to uncover further details about the crash; as of now, they have ruled out speed and impairment as contributing factors.
