Early yesterday morning, a burglary suspect was caught on Park Street in Alameda. The Alameda Police Department responded to a break-in around 4:00 am, alerted by vigilant locals. The suspect was apprehended quickly due to the combined efforts of residents and police.
A glass break notification and a call about a suspicious individual led officers to the 1200 block of Park Street, where they found the suspect trying to pry open a safe. The suspect had already burglarized a nearby business, stealing a safe, electronic devices, and tools. An alarm stopped an attempt to enter another establishment.
Thanks to quick action by citizens and law enforcement, the stolen property was recovered and returned to the business owner. The suspect faces multiple charges. The Alameda Police Department also shared burglary prevention tips for businesses, such as using bright exterior lighting, investing in secure safes, limiting cash on hand, keeping windows clear for visibility, and using alarms, cameras, and motion lights.
