Alameda commuters and pedestrians should expect temporary disruptions on Encinal Avenue next week as Caltrans upgrades traffic signals for better accessibility. Work will occur at the intersections of Encinal Avenue with Oak Street on Tuesday, July 30, and with Broadway on Wednesday, July 31. Lane and sidewalk closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day to facilitate these improvements, according to Caltrans.
The upgrades will include new accessible pedestrian signals, updated curb ramps, clearer crosswalk markings, and vehicle speed feedback signs. Additionally, the project will convert traffic lanes to improve flow, with one lane in each direction, a center left-turn lane, two new bicycle lanes, and redesigned parking spaces.
Caltrans appreciates the public's patience during these improvements, which aim to enhance safety and accessibility.
