Friends of Flat Shoals Park is gearing up to bring the joys of reading back to the community with their annual Book it to the Park event. Slotted for July 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., this community-driven book drive is to take place at Flat Shoals Park, located at 4522 Flat Shoals Pkwy., Decatur, Ga. In a bid to foster literacy among the young ones, the organization is calling for donations of new and gently used children's books.
Since the inception of Book it to the Park, following the installation of their new book box in 2017, the book exchange program has become a popular stop for the literarily curious kids of DeKalb County. According to a statement obtained by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs, The book box has been a success and is heavily utilized by youth in the community." The aim is to continue to constantly replenish the trove of tales awaiting young readers in the park's book box.
It's not just about dropping off books, though. Those attending the literary shindig can expect to enjoy an assortment of kid-friendly activities. A chalk walk, a corn toss, and the interactive reading experience of StoryWalk® are all on the docket, promising to make for a page-turning outing for the entire family.
