Last night, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an arrest on firearm charges in Dorchester after a foot chase that culminated in the recovery of a handgun. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Willie Greathouse of Dorchester, now faces multiple charges following the incident, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
According to the police, officers patrolling around Geneva Avenue and Columbia Road initially observed two individuals engaged in a verbal altercation with a third party—one of whom was dressed in a jacket and pants despite the summer heat. The police surmised that the clothing choice might be intended to conceal items not meant for public display. The suspects attempted to enter a building but failed and then proceeded down Columbia Road. One of them kept glancing back at the officers, who exited their cruiser to approach the suspects. One suspect fled, prompting a chase.
The BPD report describes how Greathouse allegedly disposed of what was later identified as a Taurus G2C firearm—loaded with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in a high-capacity magazine—into a recycling barrel during the pursuit. Officers managed to corner him on Columbia Road and make the arrest, retrieving the discarded weapon in the process.
The charges listed against Greathouse include Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, further he was charged with Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device and Trespassing as a result of the evening's events, Greathouse is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
