A Boston police officer sustained serious injuries today after a vehicle struck them in the city's North End. The officer was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital following the incident, which occurred while they were aiding in the navigation of a construction truck across North Washington Street and Thacher Street, as reported by NBC Boston.
According to officials, the officer was working a construction detail at 12:41 p.m., inadvertently hit by the back of the truck they were helping to guide. Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin, of the Boston Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, shared that the officer, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, suffered "serious injuries, but non-life-threatening," as noted by NBC Boston.
Images from the scene displayed numerous police vehicles and a fire engine, while yellow tape enclosed a white work truck. McLaughlin announced that the investigation is still very active, and too premature to consider charges against the driver, who has been cooperative. The driver remained at the scene, and their cooperation with the law enforcement has been noted.
