The trail, known for its rugged terrain, includes extensive sections of welded wire fencing intended for traction which poses potential threats to animals. Cannon Beach RFPD highlighted the unfriendly nature of the trail for pets, indicating that there have been several cases requiring rescue due to similar injuries. "Over the years, we have had several calls for dogs that needed assistance off the mountain due to dehydration or cut/raw paw pads," stated the RFPD in a warning that was echoed across multiple news outlets.
