In a series of overnight burglaries, several businesses across the 009th, 016th, and 025th Districts have been left shattered and financially bruised. According to the Chicago Police Department, the burglaries occurred during the early hours of July 4, with thieves targeting cash, safes, and electronics after breaking in.
Incidents were reported at multiple locations, including the 4700 block of West Belmont Ave, the 4800 block of West Irving Park Rd, and various spots on Devon Ave and Milwaukee Ave. Alarmingly, just a minute before 5:00 A.M., using a crowbar or hammer, the offenders propelled their crime spree with two more burglaries on the 5300 block of Devon Ave and the 5300 North block of Milwaukee Ave.
The offenders have been described as three male individuals, assumed to be between 16 to 25 years old, all concealed behind black masks and donned in black attire. They were spotted using tools like a hammer or crowbar to gain entry. Businesses in the mentioned districts are on high alert and encouraged to take preventive measures such as installing ArmorPlast on their windows and ensuring that existing surveillance systems are operational and recording.
In light of the recent burglaries, the Chicago Police Department advises business owners to take proactive steps for protection, saying, "Be aware of this crime and alert nearby businesses. If possible, use ArmorPlast, an unbreakable shield that fits over existing glass", indicating the importance of community vigilance and preparedness.
