Chicago business owners in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Districts are on high alert after a series of mid-day robberies have hit local establishments. The Chicago Police Department has issued a business alert following multiple incidents involving a knife-wielding offender who targeted businesses during operating hours, taking cash from their registers.
The most recent event occurred on the 10800 block of South Doty Rd on July 23, closely following previous incidents in the sequence that began on June 26. To date, businesses on East 103rd St, South Doty Rd again, East 95th St, and South Stony Island have all been victims of this alarming string of crimes. In all cases, the perpetrator brandishes a weapon, a knife, and then proceeds, to collect money. Businesses are urged to keep their environments secure and update their security measures including cameras and lighting.
A description of the offender has been provided by authorities. He is reported to be a black male with glasses, sporting dreadlocks, and bearing a noticeable tattoo on his left arm. Store owners and employees have been advised to remain vigilant and to prioritize safety by installing proper security systems and employing tracking devices for merchandise.
In the wake of these robberies, the Chicago Police Department is pushing for heightened awareness and swift reporting of any suspicious activity. "Call 911 immediately so business can be processed by an Evidence Technician," the police department emphasized.
