Businesses in the 14th and 19th Districts of Chicago are on high alert after a series of burglaries targeted local shops in the early hours of July 24th, 2024. According to a recent business alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, an organized group of individuals, described as four male offenders dressed in black hooded sweatshirts, gloves, and face masks, shattered business entrances using a hammer to commit their crimes.
The series of break-ins occurred within a tight timeframe, suggesting a coordinated effort by the burglars. Incidents were reported at the 3000 North Block of Broadway St at both 4:45AM and 4:46AM, followed by burglaries at the 1900, 2000, and 1500 West Blocks of Division St between 5:20AM and 5:25AM, concluding with a burglary at the 2200 West Block of North Ave at 5:30AM. The offenders were seen leaving the scenes in a 2017 Black Dodge Durango, bearing the Plate #AC43724.
CPD is urging local businesses to increase their security measures, including the usage of ArmorPlast, a product that creates an unbreakable shield over existing glass. They also advise ensuring that existing surveillance cameras are properly functioning and recording. Businesses and community members are encouraged to maintain vigilance, report suspicious activities to authorities, and be particularly watchful during the overnight hours when these incidents have taken place.
Those with any information pertaining to these burglaries or the identified vehicle are implored to contact the police. "Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offenders," the CPD statement advised.
