A 19-year-old Chicago resident has been arrested and slapped with felony charges following a shooting incident that occurred in April on Leach Drive in Naperville, authorities reported. Kanyon J. Hardy, identified as the suspect, was detained on July 24 by Forest Park Police, as indicated in a Naperville Police Department news release.
The incident unfolded on April 16, when police were called to a Naperville residence after reports of a shooting and discovered a 22-year-old man shot in the leg, this man whom the police said had known his assailants, and in addition to being shot, was reportedly robbed of cash; Hardy, the second suspect involved, now faces three counts of armed robbery, which are classified as Class X felonies. A juvenile suspect was apprehended on the same day of the crime and charged with Aggravated Robbery with a Firearm.
Hardy, who is believed to have discharged the weapon in the altercation, resides on the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard in Chicago, according to the police report. Due to the serious nature of the charges, which include the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Hardy's arrest marks a significant development in a case that has been under investigation for over three months.
While the authorities continue their legal proceedings, they have issued a reminder concerning the presumption of innocence: "a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty," this reminder which is essential to uphold the principles of justice, has been noted in the official news release from the Naperville Police Department. The victim of the shooting has since recovered and was released from the hospital following the incident.
