The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert for residents of the 9th District (Deering) following a string of armed robberies this July. According to the alert, which was detailed on the Chicago Police Department's official website, there have been multiple incidents where victims were approached by two masked offenders who demanded personal property at gunpoint before fleeing the area.
The robberies occurred on the 2300 Block of South Wentworth Avenue and the 2200 Block of South Princeton Avenue in the early hours of July 8th. The first incident happened at 1:05 a.m. and the second, shortly thereafter, at 1:20 a.m. Descriptions of the offenders include two male blacks, one approximately 5'11" to 6'00" and the other around 5'10", both wearing ski masks, black sweatshirts, black jeans, and black shoes, with the involvement of a third unknown individual who operated the vehicle used in the robberies, a gray 2024 model car.
Authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. "If you are confronted by an assailant, remain calm," the police advice reads, emphasizing the importance of observing any standout physical features of the offenders and never chasing after them but instead providing information to the police. The community is also encouraged to save video surveillance footage and seek contact information from any witnesses at the scene.
In response to these incidents, the police are asking that anyone with information contact the Area Central detectives. The department's notice includes a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings and to dial 9-1-1, immediately, if confronted by a perpetrator. Residents and businesses with security cameras are recommended to keep a copy of any relevant footage that could aid in the investigation of these crimes.
