A postal worker was left in critical condition after being shot in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood, officials reported. The shooting incident occurred near the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue early Friday afternoon. NBC Chicago detailed that the victim was swiftly transported to Christ Hospital where they were listed in critical condition following the violent encounter.
The Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt relayed that the mail carrier, a female, was shot in her chest. Found in the midst of her rounds on the 11200 block of South Harvard Avenue around 11:40 a.m., she was plagued by unfortunate circumstances that led to her critical injury. The Sun-Times reports Merritt described the attack as "unfortunate" as the gunshots altered the course of an ordinary day-a-day wherein promises of letters and parcels were eclipsed by the piercing sound of gunfire.
At the time of the report, the details about the perpetrator or the reasons behind the shooting remained shrouded in ambiguity, leaving the community with more questions than answers. The identity of the postal worker, beyond her gender, was not released, and no updates on her condition have been provided since her admission to the hospital.
Police have yet to release information regarding any suspects involved while the motive behind the shooting remains a shattered mirror, with reflections too painful and distorted to make out clearly. As details emerge, more light will hopefully be shed on the circumstances that led to this critical injury of a USPS employee serving her community.
