Following a high-speed pursuit in Oakland, California Highway Patrol officers apprehended a suspect driving a Tesla. The chase unfolded last Friday when the vehicle caught officers' attention due to its excessive speed in a bus lane on International Boulevard near 60th Avenue.
The CHP's attempt to initiate a traffic stop took a turn when the Tesla driver began to evade, prompting officers to engage in pursuit. According to CHP Oakland, a CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations Unit helicopter was dispatched, providing ground units with real-time updates from the sky. The helicopter's involvement allowed ground units, unable to keep pace safely with the fleeing Tesla, to back off.
The aerial guidance led law enforcement to the scene at E. 27th Street and Grande Vista Avenue, where the vehicle reached a dead end. The suspect was arrested without further incident. Following the chase, the suspect faced multiple charges and was booked at the Berkeley Jail. Charges included felony evading, reckless driving, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.
