The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office recently wrapped up a successful sweep against retail crime. As reported on July 19th by the Sheriff's Office website, the operation took place on Thursday, July 18, at the Clackamas Promenade. Authorities made 24 arrests in a crackdown targeting busy retail outlets such as Kohl’s, Old Navy, and Target located on SE Sunnyside Rd.
The intensive sting operation was a collaborative endeavor with the loss prevention departments of the various retailers involved. The crackdown led to the clearance of 12 arrest warrants, alongside the recovery of stolen merchandise valued at over $3,300. A notable incident involved a suspect caught stealing while accompanied by two females and a baby in a stroller.
Investigations revealed that some of the apprehended individuals are suspected of being part of larger fencing operations, where stolen goods transit through a network of illicit buyers and sellers within the metro area.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing retail crime, crediting cooperation with the Milwaukee Police Department, the Oregon Department of Justice, and the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
Given the recency of the sting and the nature of ongoing investigations, further details regarding the specifics of the arrests and the suspected fencing operations remain under scrutiny.
