In a resounding show of support for local educators, the City of Clarksville employees have pooled together their resources to deliver over 18,000 Expo dry-erase markers to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation Teacher’s Warehouse. This gesture forms part of a longstanding tradition where city workers personally contribute to aid teachers in equipping their classrooms. Not a single penny of this comes from city funds, underscoring the community spirit driving the initiative.
Working in tandem with the Montgomery County Government, the city employees engaged in a friendly rivalry aiming to outdo each other in generosity. Well outstripping the previous year's donation of Crayola products, as per a city publication, this year was met with employees setting, then surpassing a high fundraising bar. Meeting the goal of 16,230 markers was not only met, employees brought in 18,397, which amounted to roughly $20,000 in supplies.
In reflection of the collective effort, Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts referenced the scriptures, noting the city workers' commitment to loving their community through tangible acts. "In Romans, chapter 12, Paul tells us to, 'be devoted to one another in love.' Time and time again, our City employees show their devotion to the people of Clarksville," Mayor Pitts said, according to a statement. He commended not just the generosity but also the spirit that prompts city employees to exceed expectations continually.
These donations were delivered to the Teacher’s Warehouse on July 25 and will soon be put into the hands of teachers for the new academic year, as confirmed by a city announcement. Through this collective effort, city employees actively support an educational infrastructure by providing for those who shape the minds of the next generation.
