Clayton County's Senior Services Department has honored Jaime Montalvo as the July Veteran of the Month, recognizing an illustrious career that spanned over a decade of military service, followed by significant contributions in the field of information technology, both in education and community service. A Newport News, VA native, Montalvo began her military career straight out of high school, enlisting in the U.S. Army at just 17-years-old. According to Clayton County's announcement, Montalvo served from July 1999 to September 2010, rising through the ranks to become a Staff Sergeant.
Among the multiple positions detailed in the county's announcement, Montalvo's tenure included a formative stint in Germany as a Senior Information Systems Operator/Maintainer. Later, she was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, with her team, where she experienced the theater of war. After completing her service overseas, she continued her engagement with the Army at Fort Drum, NY, before applying her recruitment acumen in Holmes, PA, as part of the U.S. Army Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion.
Parallel to her service, Montalvo pursued higher education, culminating in an Executive MBA from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, as proudly announced by the Clayton County government. Her array of academic accomplishments also includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technology and certifications that contribute to her current role with Clayton County’s Department of Information Technology since January 2015.
The county's communiqué highlights Montalvo's notable recognitions received during her military career, including the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Serving in diverse capacities, Jaime earned a litany of accolades such as the US Army Gold Recruiter Badge with 2 Sapphire Stars, and was named the MEDCOM Information Management Soldier of the Year in 2023. Enjoying the company of her family and a son aged 10, Montalvo balances her professional life with personal endeavors, taking pleasure in cooking and staying active through Zumba.
