A high-speed chase on the interstates of Clayton County concluded with the arrest of a suspect featured on the county’s most wanted list. According to law enforcement, Dareies Antwan Roberts, the driver of a Hyundai vehicle, was apprehended after leading deputies on a pursuit that originated from Interstate 75 and continued onto Interstate 20 before coming to a halt on Flat Shoals Road when he crashed into a guard rail, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
The Clayton County Sheriff's Office conveyed that their traffic unit identified Roberts driving at a significant speed over the limit on I-75, which led to the chase when the driver failed to comply with a stop. After the collision, Roberts allegedly attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly subdued by deputies. "After being placed in the back of the patrol car, the suspect turned and kicked out the back window of the patrol car," the Sheriff's Office reported, which was corroborated by Atlanta News First.
The crash site on Flat Shoals Road became the endpoint of Roberts's flight from justice, who was later found to be number seven on Sheriff Levon Allen's "Most Wanted HOT" list. Deputies apprehended Roberts after a brief foot chase and administered a tasing to prevent further evasion. Once in custody, Roberts' name, run through the department's database, revealed multiple warrants for serious offenses such as violation of probation, home invasion, and aggravated assault, among others.
Roberts is now confined at the Clayton County Jail facing a litany of charges. These include interference with government property, fleeing, stalking, home invasion, burglary, reckless driving, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. In the wake of the chase, authorities discovered illicit substances and a weapon in the vehicle Roberts had been driving; they located 100 Oxycodone pills, and a half-pound of marijuana and a firearm, according to the same Atlanta News First report.
