Good news for Fort Lauderdale residents and visitors: the advisory against water-related activities in a section of the Intracoastal Waterway has been removed. As of now, those looking forward to swimming, fishing, or simply enjoying a day of paddle boarding can head back to the waterway without concern.
The affected zone, defined by SE 5th Street to the north, Isla Bahia Drive to the south, Riviera Isle Drive to the west, and Seabreeze Boulevard to the east, had been under advisory since a sewer force main rupture last Friday near 801 Seabreeze Boulevard.
The City of Fort Lauderdale announced the lifting of advisories yesterday, assuring that cleanup efforts have wrapped up and water testing confirmed the safety of the waterway. In a document available on the City of Fort Lauderdale's website, city officials have stated, "water sampling in the affected area has demonstrated that the waterway meets the State’s surface water quality standards."
For any inquiries or concerns about the lifting of the advisory or water quality, the City is reachable through their Customer Service Center at 954-828-8000 or by dropping an email to [email protected].
