Conyers Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has recognized the efforts of Ginette Nean, owner of Djea Natural Hair Spa, by presenting her the 2023 Outstanding Achievement Award. The award celebrates Nean's commitment to renovating and beautifying her establishment at 933 Commercial Street in the historic Olde Town Conyers. "Ms. Nean and her stylists are in an airy, modern and dynamic space for the ultimate haircare experience in Olde Town Conyers," said DDA Chairman Keish Momin, as reported by the City of Conyers official website.

According to a recent publication, Djea Natural Hair Spa has a history in Conyers dating back to 2010, but it opened its doors in Olde Town in July 2022. The spa specializes in maintaining healthy hair care, particularly for curly textures and locs, and even features homemade natural butter for locs. In addition to housing three stylists and three independent stylists who are well-versed in natural hair textures, the salon has woven itself into the fabric of the community by engaging clients with local businesses and events.

Ginette Nean has been proactive not only in business but also in fostering community engagement. "Since I moved to Olde Town Conyers, my clients have had the experience of visiting different restaurants and participating in various festivals and events," Nean stated, emphasizing her delight in introducing clientele to the heart of the city, as stated in the same news release. In addition, the salon owner organized a wellness event and has plans for another in the fall, with the intent to draw more visitors downtown. This community focus is a testament to the salon's integration into the local social and economic ecosystem.

The building that Djea Natural Hair Spa occupies carries its own historical significance, having variously served as a grocery store, shoe repair shop, taxi stand, and bread store since the 1950s. Most recently, it had been the sanctuary of Unity Church of Rockdale before undergoing extensive renovation for nearly a year. These updates brought a dated space into the present, fit to cater to the modern demands of a bustling hair salon.

This is the ninth year the Conyers DDA has handed out the Outstanding Achievement Award to businesses or individuals who have shown dedication to the beautification or restoration of buildings within Olde Town Conyers. The DDA board includes Jacob Bailey, Thua Barlay, George Levett, Jr., Renee Marrett, Keish Momin, Ashley Rustom, and Brad Smith, and meetings are open to the public every first Tuesday of the month at Conyers City Hall.
