
Early Tuesday morning, a brazen theft at the Gold Coast neighborhood Balenciaga store shook the usually serene streets of downtown Chicago; an SUV crashed through the window of the high-end retail outlet in an apparent smash-and-grab operation. CBS News Chicago reported that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., after which an unknown number of offenders fled the scene in two separate vehicles.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, the culprits used a Jeep to break through the storefront, leaving behind a trail of glass and debris as well as empty store displays that once held purses and other luxury items; the specifics of the stolen merchandise and its value remain unclear however the aftermath was visually defined by the scattered remnants of opulence, hastily taken.
Chicago police, now analyzing video from the scene, confirmed that merchandise was indeed stolen, but the exact inventory and loss have not yet been detailed. No injuries were reported during the incident, and as of now, no arrests have been made.
