An East Knoxville home was enveloped in smoke and flames late Saturday afternoon, resulting in four individuals being displaced from their residence. According to a report by WVLT, the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) dispatched crews to the scene on the 500 block of Ben Hur Avenue around 4:40 p.m. following a call from a passerby who noticed smoke emerging from the structure.
Upon arrival, firefighters faced a blaze that had fully engaged a home. They managed to subdue the flames within 15 minutes, as stated by Knoxville Daily Sun. The report detailed that there was not anyone at home at the time of the incident, and a dog found outside the home was safely unharmed.
The fire inflicted "significant smoke, water and fire damage," on the residence, rendering it uninhabitable, the KFD confirmed. WIVK included in their coverage that no injuries were reported from the incident, offering a small relief amid the destruction.
In the aftermath, the KFD is carrying out an investigation to decipher the cause of the fire. The affected individuals must now contend with the sudden loss of their home and personal effects. While the physical wounds are absent, the emotional and logistical burden of such an event is a significant adversity to overcome.
