Commuters on the Eisenhower Expressway faced early disruptions Wednesday morning after a semi-trailer hauling a significant load overturned. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. just east of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) near Elmhurst. The semi, which was carrying 27,000 pounds of canned goods, experienced a rollover crash, promptly prompting state troopers to close all eastbound lanes and redirect traffic to the southbound lanes of I-294.
The traffic was snarled due to the accident, which took several hours to clear. By 9:17 a.m., in a follow-up by ABC7 Chicago, all lanes had reopened and traffic patterns resumed normal flow. The response to the incident demonstrated efficiency and rapid response despite the mess created on the interstate.
Additional details from CBS News indicated that although the truck rolled over near St. Charles Road, the cargo of canned goods remained intact. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the aftermath of the rollover crash.
