Elizabeth R. Lemoine was appointed to the Washington County Circuit Court by Governor Tina Kotek, an announcement that came earlier today. Lemoine, whose legal roots and volunteerism have spread through Washington County for more than 30 years, will assume her new role effective immediately. She fills the newly minted 16th judicial position, a seat created by the recent passing of Senate Bill 1541.
Lemoine brings a significant depth of experience to the bench, with Governor Kotek citing her fair and balanced legal approach as a primary reason for her appointment. "Her local expertise and wide breadth and depth of legal expertise will serve the Court well," Governor Kotek said. The new judge's background boasts twenty years of handling civil cases across various circuit courts in Oregon and a solid judicial bearing rooted in her six-year tenure as a volunteer pro tem judge in the county.
The integration of Judge Lemoine into the Washington County Circuit Court comes at an opportune moment, as courts continue to face complex legal challenges and a mounting caseload. Her investiture is more than ceremonious; it marks the continuation of a lifetime of legal service, which has included not only legal practice but also a commitment to community through volunteer efforts.
