Charlotte's dining scene is set to lose a staple that has served the community for over three decades as Harper's Restaurant in SouthPark announces its impending closure. According to QC News, the establishment located at 6518 Fairview Road, directly across from the SouthPark Mall, is to shut its doors on July 20, 2024. The restaurant, which has welcomed patrons since 1992 at this location and since 1987 at their previous spot on Woodlawn Road, expressed gratitude to their staff and customers. "With the help of hundreds of associates with incredible hospitality that work with us today and have worked with us over the years, we first and foremost say thank you," the restaurant stated, acknowledging the support they've received over the years.
The property is set to be redeveloped for a different purpose altogether. The Charlotte Observer reports that the next chapter for the currently occupied site will be as a bank, a development move that has left both the Harper's Restaurant’s ownership and staff and the Charlotte community at large with feelings of dismay over the loss of their beloved eatery.
According to WCCB Charlotte, the decision to transform the Harper's Restaurant site comes from the property owners who plan to demolish the current building, leaving the iconic Charlotte restaurant to search for a new address. This not only marks the end of an era for the establishment at its longstanding Fairview Road home but also signals the continuous shift in the landscape of Charlotte's commercial real estate and the challenges faced by long-running businesses amidst redevelopment pressures.
Harper’s Restaurant continues to serve its clientele, maintaining the hospitality they are renowned for until the very last day.
