Eugene residents were met with a startling scene as police and emergency services converged on Irwin Park early yesterday morning in response to a shooting. According to the City of Eugene, a 911 call at 3:31 a.m. from an adult male reported that he had been shot. Eugene Police Department (EPD) officers were the first to arrive, quickly providing the victim with emergency medical aid.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was at the park with two other individuals when a dispute escalated with another group. The nature of the argument remains unclear. Soon after, Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) took over medical treatment and rushed the man to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.
Eugene Police have launched an investigation to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Assisting in the search for suspects, the Lane County Sheriff's Office K9 unit, along with Springfield K9 and an SPD drone, were dispatched to the scene. Officials have yet to release descriptions or information regarding any suspects involved in the incident.
