Last Friday, a single-vehicle collision tragically culminated in the death of a 52-year-old man at the intersection of Jackson Street, east of Diadon Drive in Hayward. According to the Hayward Police Department, the man was driving eastbound on Jackson Street around 1:40 p.m. when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a cement pillar. Arriving officers found the driver with major injuries still at the scene.
After being transported to a local hospital, the man, whose identity remains undisclosed pending next of kin notification, died the following day due to his injuries. With investigations ongoing to determine the potential involvement of alcohol, the case marks Hayward's sixth fatal collision this year. The man, suffering from major injuries related to the collision, laid evidence of the shattering impact before officers arrived at the ground scene.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office is undertaking proper identification protocols and, until completed, the man’s name is kept confidential. Hayward Police Department's Traffic Bureau is asking anyone with information about the collision to come forward and contact them at 510-293-7011, referring to case number 2024-39812.
