A woman was pronounced dead following a crash on Pellissippi Parkway near Northshore Drive earlier today, the Knoxville Police Department reports. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:30 a.m. after reports that a car had uncontrollably veered off the road before flipping, according to a press release obtained by WATE. The vehicle was found overturned, resting next to a tree, with the woman inside it.
The identity of the woman has not been released pending notification of kin. Scott Erland, KPD Communications Manager, confirmed that the driver was an adult female, but details regarding her identity are being withheld at this juncture. He stated that KPD reconstruction personnel are still thoroughly to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, as reported by WVLT. The cause of the crash, which led to the car losing control and exiting the roadway, remains under active investigation.
The Knoxville Police Department's response to the incident also involved the Crash Reconstruction Personnel, who are tasked with piecing together the events that led to the tragic outcome. As evidenced by the scene, the car had sustained significant damage after it flipped off the parkway and came to a halt beside a tree, which suggests the impact was severe.
Reports from witnesses and initial findings were noted in a statement posted by WBIR, which indicated that the vehicle had lost control for reasons yet to be determined. Further updates are expected as authorities continue their inquiry into the crash.
