Early Friday morning, tragedy struck the Bishop Ford Freeway on Chicago's Far South Side as a motorist's life was abruptly ended in a vehicular collision. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, at around 5:50 A.M., a driver operating a white GMC SUV collided with a median barrier near 115th Street, resulting in fatal consequences.
Illinois State Police reported that the motorist, after hitting the barrier, was ejected from the vehicle. Confirmed dead by state police, the aftermath of the crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes on the freeway near the crash site, with traffic being diverted at 115th Street. The scene unfolding on Bishop Ford requires patience and foresight as commuters are advised to seek alternative routes.
The Illinois State Police have yet to release the identity of the driver as age and gender remain unknown. Compounding the incident was the presence of a dog in the SUV at the time of the crash. While initial reports from the police suggested the dog had also perished, these claims were later retracted. As clarified by ABC7 Chicago, the pet survived the ordeal without injury.
Following the crash, all southbound lanes of Interstate 94 between 115th and 130th streets were temporarily shut down, causing significant disruption to morning traffic. Eager for normalcy, affected motorists found respite when lanes reopened at about 9:19 A.M. In the middle of their investigation, police were seen by Chopper 7 combing through debris and gathering evidence to piece together the events that led up to the tragic incident.
