
A tragic incident unfolded on southbound Interstate 5 near Birmingham Drive yesterday afternoon as a vehicle struck a pedestrian, ultimately leading to a fatality. According to the California Highway Patrol's Oceanside Area office, the crash involved a Tesla Model Y and an unidentified male pedestrian.
The CHP reported that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the multiple lanes of the southbound freeway around 2:30 p.m. when he was hit by the electric vehicle, which was traveling in the HOV lane. The reason why the pedestrian was crossing the freeway is still to be determined, as the investigation into this incident continues to fully unfold.
Responders from the Encinitas Fire/Paramedics, alongside the highway patrol, arrived at the scene to find the male pedestrian with severe injuries. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Tesla was found to be uninjured and has cooperated with authorities following the incident.
