Tragedy struck early Tuesday morning on a stretch of Interstate 80 as a semi-trailer, for reasons yet to be determined, careened off the road near the Kedzie Avenue exit in the south suburbs. According to the Chicago Tribune, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. and resulted in the semi-trailer overturning on Kedzie Avenue, a disaster that claimed the life of the vehicle's driver.
Illinois State Police, having arrived to swiftly investigate, announced that at the time of the accident, eastbound traffic on I-80 had one lane shut down. Traffic on Kedzie Avenue was also affected, with closures reported in both directions beneath the interstate overpass. Efforts appeared to wholly center on not just managing the immediate aftermath but also on discerning what set of circumstances led the truck swiftly to lose control and hurdle down the embankment, as reported by ABC7 Chicago.
