Earlier on, the fire spread quickly, reaching 1,000 acres in size and prompting evacuation warnings and orders near Jacumba Hot Springs as well as a smoke advisory for Southeast San Diego County, according to a report which also says the blaze began before 4 p.m. yesterday, struggled with containment of only 5% by Tuesday morning, and saw Cal Fire and other agencies deploy over 200 personnel and four aerial teams to manage the emergency, while a smoke advisory issued still stands to warn residents of air quality issues, according to reports by Hoodline.
There have been no reported injuries, and the identity of the driver whose crash sparked the fire remains unclear, leaving the larger implications of this disaster looming over the community. Over 150 structures were threatened by the fire's advance, compelling residents to seek refuge, with facilities like the Golden Acorn Casino transforming into an evacuation center—a development shared in residents' accounts one of whom told Fox 5 San Diego, "laid in our vehicles overnight," painting a stark picture of the urgency with which residents have had to act.
The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District mentioned that the containment efforts have benefited from strategic aerial water drops, and what was described as advantageous low fire intensity during the previous night, facilitated firefighters in battling the blaze, the dedication of the teams working throughout this ordeal underlines the continuous strife between humankind and nature's untamed force, and as firefighters maintain their vigil, they are the bulwark against the flames with the brutal heat ahead, yet their resolve remains unshaken, as per Hoodline.
